Not a fan.

That new top bar does nothing to counter my lack of desire to visit just about any of those pages. Kotaku is pretty solid, although blocked on my work comp, Gizmodo is okay, and FP is FP. Otherwise, the rest are pretty much a no-go.

And the notifications button disappears entirely unles there something new.
And when it does show it’s only half there. Though that could be FF.

Yeah, the notification bar sucks. If you have more than one notification, you can't just go back and click the lightning bolt to see them. You actually have to click your avatar and go in that way. Stupid design.

People are reluctant to change just for the sake of being so. It’s fine, give it a day and you’ll forget what the old bar looked like.

Yeah, I don’t like it.

It looks nice; really sleek.
But it doesn’t improve anything. It just adds to the height instead of actually replacing the old header. So instead of one all-purpose header, we now have two, and the “blogs you may like” quick-links are duplicate.

I don't see the point since the button in the top left corner already connects to all those blogs anyway. It's a pointless change which I'll get used to.

I can’t see the notification when someone is yelling at me.

Stuff that still doesn’t work for me:
Paragraphs
Submitting/embedding Photos
Videos
Posts appearing after submission
Copy and paste
Basically everything important
Bullets and numbering work
But just a little bit

Not just FF. Does the same in IE 11 too.

The last few days Kinja has had a memory leak forcing any browser I use to crash badly. Aka Kinja’d

Yeah, it's been a clusterfuck with most of that stuff for a while for me, in IE 11. Paragraphs are a pain in the ass, and every time I insert a picture it will give a duplicate broken image. Maybe it's my work computer, or maybe it's just Kinja being Kinja. Hell, right now I can't even get a reply or comment to appear to be posted. I have to click the top bar and go out of the thread and then come back in to see if it worked. But, it works like it should (well, for Kinja anyway) in Chrome when I'm at home.

I'm always stuck in IE hell from various work computers. I think they're always trying to be on the leading edge of Internet whiz-bang stuff, but to a fault — so many of us comment from work or school machines that most often use IE, they need to dumb it down to work for us, too. Almost every change I've seen on the Gawker sites (about 12 years?) has been to slightly benefit the 10% while screwing it up for the other 90%. No other site I visit seems to follow this mantra.

If they’d left the notification button always available, yes. In this case, every time you have more than one notification you have to go to your profile.

Oh, I’m going to hate that.

I think sleek and nice are the wrong words, but I’ll agree with everything else.

It’s the notification button (or lack thereof) that bugs me. Everything else is just skin deep, but that button has become a problem.

Yup.

Good point, didn’t notice that was missing. Bring it back!

It’s thin and I love the color scheme.
In fact, I think it would be great for Kinja to have a theme option to make the background black instead of white; it would be much easier on the eyes. I’ve also found that black backgrounds work better with light grey text than with white text.
EDIT: JPG compression kind of killed the quality of that example, but you get the idea...

Pretty much couldn’t have said it any better. Granted, I don't really want to use IE, but I also don't have a choice in the matter.

Where’s my notifications, maaaannnn?

It’s they always have a million bugs when they “upgrade” There is nothing wrong with change, unless it’s change that makes everything worse.
![]() 07/22/2016 at 13:38 |

Yup but there were a million bugs before as well.
I think with Kinja we just have to accept a literal minimum of one million bugs. Otherwise it just wouldn’t be Kinja.

I just noticed that the search function in the old header isn’t working...

Before the switch to Kinja, it was the switch to 5.0, there were even more bugs in that if you can believe it.

So long ago I don’t remember the pre-Kinja days. We can migrate over to vBulletin and be happy.

I don’t remember much of the early kinja days, it was so bad I left right after it was introduced.
